The Semi ‘All Inclusive’ Resorts of Puerto Rico

Here’s the honest truth: there are no true, Sandals-style resorts in Puerto Rico. So if you see an article about “Puerto Rico All Inclusives” online, consider it clickbait. Because even though the concept of paying one price for your room, food, drinks, and activities has spread throughout most of the region — even to the U.S. Virgin Islands — and has been adopted by major hotel chains like Marriott and Wyndham, all-inclusive resorts have yet to take hold on the fourth largest island in the Caribbean.

Some resorts, however, offer meal packages such as full American plan (room plus three meals daily), modified American plan (room plus two daily meals, typically breakfast and dinner), or bed & breakfast.

Combine one of these plans with the complementary activities offered by many resorts, like free use of water sports equipment, and you can at least get closer to an “all-inclusive” experience — though you’ll likely still have to pay for your drinks at the bar.

Puerto Rico resorts that offer packages that include at least some of the elements of an all-inclusive resort include:

Tropical Inns Puerto Rico

This small chain of midpriced hotels in Yabucoa and Manuabo, including the Parador Palmas de Lucía, Parador Costa del Mar, Parador MaunaCaribe, and Hotel Lucia Beach’s claims to have the only all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico. They come reasonably close when you book the All Inclusive Family Package, a three-day, two-night deal which covers accommodations plus dinner the first night, three meals the second day, and breakfast on the third day.

Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa

The deluxe meal plan at this resort in Guanica comes pretty close to all-inclusive, covering three meals a day plus unlimited nonalcoholic drinks. Activities include a pool, gym, volleyball court, and lighted tennis courts, but water sports gear like kayaks and snorkel equipment have to be rented.

Villa Cofresi

The restaurant at Villa Confresi is one of the best in Rincon, and guests can take full advantage of these dining delights by booking a couples package that includes breakfast and dinner daily. Amenities at this small hotel are limited to a swimming pool, but it is right on the beach.

Parador Guanica 1929

This modest traditional small inn in Ensenada offers guests the option of including breakfast, breakfast and lunch, or three meals daily with the price of a room. A swimming pool is the main amenity but the hotel is close to such attractions as the Guanaco Dry Forest, Fort Capron, and Jungle Beach.

Club Seabourne Hotel

Daily breakfast and limited complementary use of kayaks and bicycles are included in the price of a stay at this boutique hotel on the island of Culebra.

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa

This four-star resort near the El Yunque rainforest has a bed & breakfast deal and complementary daily activities that include yoga, aerobics, and stretch classes as well as a variety of poolside games and beach volleyball. Pretty much everything else, including golf, tennis, and spa treatments, are a la carte, however.

Royal Sonesta San Juan

Set on Isla Verde Beach in San Juan, the Royal Sonesta offers a breakfast-included package along with included amenities like a lagoon-style pool, fitness center.

Fairmont El San Juan

One of the most iconic hotels in San Juan offers a package that pairs deluxe accommodations with daily buffet breakfasts at the Caña Restaurant.
